Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (0-0-1, 0-0-1 NJAC) showed great defense as the Ospreys came away with a 0-0 draw on opening night against Montclair State (0-0-1, 0-0-1 NJAC). The Red Hawks outshot Stockton by a massive 31-3 margin but
Jennifer Devault (Mullica Hill/Kingsway) recorded a hard-earned shutout with a career-high 12 saves.
Stockton fired off one shot in the first half as sophomore
Heather Bertollo (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) sent one on net at 6:28 of the first period that was kicked aside. Montclair State controlled play after that as they peppered Stockton with 25 shots in regulation.
Three shots by the home team, one on goal, in the first overtime, kept the match in a scoreless deadlock. The second OT saw sophomore
Danielle Christ (Brick/Brick Twp.) put the second attempt for Stockton on goal at 4:31 of the frame but that too was stopped. Selena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) took a shot 35 seconds later that sailed wide.
The Red Hawks were able to fire three attempts in the final 4:50 of the game, with two being blocked by the stout Osprey defense and the last kicked away by Devault to preserve the 0-0 draw.
Aileen Cahill led the home squad with six of the 31 shots on the night. Phoebe Bledsoe made two saves in posting the shutout for Montclair State.
Stockton will play their home opener on Saturday afternoon against Ramapo in Galloway. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
