Stockton Blanks Kean 3-0

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-0-2) notched its first victory of the season and extended its unbeaten streak to three with a 3-0 shutout of Kean University (0-1-1) at G. Larry James Stadium. The Ospreys pumped in all three goals in the second half.

Kiersten Reszkowski (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) led Stockton with a goal and an assist. Jessica Heitmann (Rockaway/Morris Knolls) and Heather Bertollo (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) netted one goal apiece for the Ospreys.

Stockton outshot Kean 7-0 in the first half, including three shots on goal, but was unable to find the back of the net. Reszkowski got the scoring started just over 12 minutes into the second half. The back fired a long shot that skipped past Kean goalkeeper Marissa Cook, who was partially screened by a pair of players crossing in front.

In the 70th minute, Heitmann dribbled from midfield into the box and slipped a low shot past a charging Cook and into the lower left corner for a 2-0 advantage. Heitmann, who returned this spring after missing the 2019 season due to injury, scored for the first time in two-and-a-half years.

Bertollo closed the scoring with 8:37 remaining as she floated a header in under the crossbar off a corner kick by Reszkowski for the final tally in the 3-0 victory.

Stockton goalkeeper Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial), another player who missed the 2019 season due to injury, played in her first game since the 2018 opener on August 31, 2018. Sullivan saved the lone shot on goal that she faced for her first career shutout.

Cook finished with six saves on the day, including a pair of diving stops in the second half. Stockton outshot the Cougars 22-1 in the match.

After two straight home games, Stockton will hit the road for an NJAC tilt at Rutgers-Camden on Saturday at 1 p.m.
