Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University senior
Daniel Do (Galloway/Absegami) was chosen as one of four national semifinalists for the
Arthur Ashe Jr. Male Athlete of the Year by the publication Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. Do runs for the Ospreys men's cross country and track & field teams.
Do also was selected as the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars national sport winner for men's cross country/track & field. He is the second Stockton student-athlete to be named a national sport winner, following Meg Murzello who received the award for softball in 2019.
Do is the lone NCAA Division III student-athlete among the quartet of semifinalists. The others are D'Eriq King (University of Miami football), Paolo Marciano (Adelphi University soccer) and Jeronimo Valdepena (California State University San Bernardino soccer). Diverse: Issues in Higher Education will announce its Male and Female Athletes of the Year in mid-April.
The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar awards recognize outstanding minority men and women who have distinguished themselves academically and in athletics. In addition to their athletic ability, candidates must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50, be at least a sophomore and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
Do is a four-year letter winner in cross country who has earned NJAC First Team honors three times. After collecting NJAC First Team accolades in 2017 and 2019, Do garnered his third all-conference nod after finishing as the runner-up at the NJAC Championships last Saturday.
Do has competed in 22 career races thus far for the Stockton indoor and outdoor track & field teams. He holds school records in the indoor 3000-meter run and outdoor 5000-meter run.
In the classroom, Do boasts a perfect 4.0 grade point average with a major in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, and he has earned his certification from the American Society of Biochemsitry and Molecular Biology. Following the completion of his degree requirements at Stockton, Do is expected to pursue a doctorate in Food Science at Ohio State University.
Last year, Do was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team and Academic All-District 2 Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He qualified for USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual status from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and was recognized as an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar and an NJAC All-Academic Second Team performer.
