Salisbury, Md. – Stockton University (0-1) faced a difficult challenge in its season opener as the Ospreys took on Salisbury (6-1), who is not only is ranked No. 4 in the nation but also had already played six games. The Sea Gulls showed why they are one of nation's top teams as they overwhelmed Stockton 26-6.
Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) and
Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) topped the Ospreys with two goals apiece.
Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) tallied a goal and an assist.
Salisbury reeled off five goals in the first six minutes before Ellis got Stockton on the board. The Sea Gulls then potted five more markers in the quarter and the first three goals of the second period for a 13-1 count. D'Armino netted the lone goal for the Ospreys in the quarter, and they trailed 18-2 at the break.
Tiernan and
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored for Stockton during a third stanza that went to Salisbury by a 4-2 margin, making it 22-4. Ellis and Tiernan hit the net for the Ospreys in the fourth quarter on the way to the 26-6 final.
Eric Lindskog (Montville/Montville) started in goal for Stockton and made six saves in 30:40 of game action. Freshman goalie
Colin Bernstein (Warrington/Central Bucks South) played 25:58 in his college debut and recorded 11 saves.
Jarrett Bromwell tossed in six goals to lead Salisbury. Josh Melton added four goals and three assists for seven points on the afternoon.
Stockton will jump into conference play next Saturday with a road game at Montclair State that begins at 7 p.m. The Ospreys defeated the Red Hawks 14-11 in the 2019 CSAC championship game, and they are the defending CSAC champions.
