Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (1-1, 1-0 CSAC) built a nine-goal lead in the first half and went on to a 21-12 victory over Montclair State (3-3, 0-1 CSAC) in the conference opener. The defending CSAC champs broke the game open with six straight goals in a nine-minute span.
Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) led the Ospreys with five goals and a career-high six assists for a career-best 11 points.
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) chipped in with four goals and an assist while
Dante Poli (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks South) added three goals and four assists.
Two early markers by Swedlund and one each from Tiernan and defender
Matt Honchalk (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) sparked Stockton to a 4-3 edge. The Ospreys then poured in six consecutive goals overlapping the last 3:35 of the first quarter and first 5:16 of the second period.
Six different players scored during the run, with Tiernan, Poli and Swedlund joined by
Alex Leming (Jefferson/Jefferson Twp.),
Peter Burke (Shamong/Seneca) and
Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) in the scoring column as the lead ballooned to 10-3.
After the Red Hawks got one back, Swedlund hit the net again, followed by two straight counters from Tiernan for a commanding 13-4 advantage. The Ospreys led 13-5 at the half and later put the game away with four straight goals in the second half.
Tiernan started the spurt and
Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) followed. Freshman
Noam Levy-Smith (Margate/Ocean City) tossed in his first career goal and
Ryan Anderson (Avon-by-the-Sea/Manasquan) made it 19-7 with 8:24 remaining on the way to the 21-12 triumph.
Stockton goalkeeper
Eric Lindskog (Montville/Montville) tied his career high with 12 saves in 52:15 between the pipes. Freshman
Colin Bernstein (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) made three stops in the last 7:45.
Tyler McCreery topped Montclair State with four goals and three assists. Christian Boyle scored three goals for the Red Hawks.
Stockton will play its home opener next Saturday, April 10 when the Ospreys host Centenary in a CSAC matchup at 1 p.m.
