Stockton Splits Second Straight Twinbill

Galloway, NJ –Stockton University (6-8, 4-6 NJAC) split a doubleheader for the second consecutive day, this time with Ramapo College (6-6, 5-5 NJAC) Saturday afternoon. Stockton captured the first game 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning, before falling in the nightcap 11-6. Evan Geisler (Lodi/Lodi) rapped three hits on the day, all in game one.

The opener saw Phil DeMarco (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.) toss six innings as he held the Roadrunners in check allowing a pair of runs and striking out five. The visitors scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings, sandwiching a single tally by the home squad in the fifth frame.

The Ospreys also flashed some leather as Ryan Mihlebach (Clarksboro/GCIT) made a diving catch in left field with the bases loaded and two outs in the sixth inning that saved more runs from scoring and keeping Stockton in the contest.

With the score 2-1 heading to the final frame, the Ospreys rallied to take the game. Marco Meleo (Freehold/Freehold Boro) reached on an error and was sacrificed to second, then Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/Old Bridge) walked. Geisler scored Meleo to knot the game at 2-2. Jahi Williams (Jersey City/Ferris) hit a bouncer that eluded the infield and Fabrizzi plated the game winner.

Tyler Apt (Williamstown/Williamstown) tossed the final three innings in relief to earn his first win of the season. He allowed just one hit in his scoreless outing.

The second game was a different affair as Ramapo jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Frank Bellezza (Avon/St. Rose) sacrifice fly scored a run for the Ospreys to slice the margin to 3-1 after two. Trey Fracassini (Midland Park/Midland Park) came on for his first career appearance and kept Stockton in the game, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing just one run.

Ramapo stretched the margin to 4-1 in the fifth before the Ospreys answered in a big way.
Meleo and John Perrino (Wall/Wall) walked. Fabrizzi knocked in Meleo to cut the lead to 4-2.

Mihlebach was hit by a pitch with two away, bringing up Mike Costanzo (Williamstown/Williamstown), who blasted a grand slam down the left field line to give Stockton a 6-4 lead after five frames. It was the first career round tripper for the sophomore.

Unfortunately that would be all the scoring for the Ospreys as Ramapo scored five times in the top of the seventh and another pair in the ninth inning to set the final score at 11-6, talking the nightcap.

In addition to Geisler three base hits, Fabrizzi, Derek Sarapuchiello (Wantage/High Point) and Sam Nieves (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) all banged out two hits on the day.

Stockton's next game will be next Thursday afternoon, when the Ospreys will face Rutgers-Camden at home. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
