Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-9, 4-7 NJAC) staged a late rally but came up on the short end of a wild 15-12 loss to Rutgers-Camden (7-10, 6-5 NJAC) on Thursday afternoon.
Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/Old Bridge),
Garrett DeMarrais (Oradell/River Dell) and
Sam Nieves (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) all reached base four times in the game.
The Scarlet Raptors exploded for 12 runs in the first four frames, highlighted by a three-run homer by Matt Yanick and a grand slam by Brett Yurgin. The Ospreys scored single runs in three innings and a pair in the fifth.
RBI by
Jahi Williams (Jersey City/Ferris) and
Mike Costanzo (Williamstown/Williamstown) plated the pair of markers in the fifth inning but the Ospreys still trailed 12-5.
The visitors tacked on three more scores to take a 15-5 advantage before Stockton staged the late rally. In the bottom of the seventh inning, the ospreys scored seven times to slice the margin to 15-12.
The home squad only had four hits in the frame but took advantage of RBI singles by
John Perrino (Wall/Wall) and
Derek Sarapuchiello (Wantage/High Point), two walks, two hit batsmen and a wild pitch to give Stockton life.
But that was as close as the Ospreys would come, as they feel to the Raptors by the 15-12 final.
Fabrizzi, Williams, Costanzo, Sarapuchiello all drove in two runs on the afternoon, with Nieves drawing four walks.
Jeremy Ruka (Cranford/Cranford) the last of five Osprey hurlers, tossed  the final two innings, without allowing a run and striking out a pair.
The Ospreys will face the Scarlet Raptors again tomorrow to finish the home and home series. The game will be played at Stockton, as Rutgers-Camden does not have a field and they will be the home team in Galloway. Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
