Stockton Edged 5-3 by #11 Rowan

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (9-11, 7-9 NJAC) led Rowan University (17-3, 14-1 NJAC) 3-2 after six-and-a-half innings but fell 5-3 to the Profs, who are ranked 11th in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA national poll.

Ryan Swift (Sewell/Washington Twp.) went 2-5 with an RBI while Ryan O'Sullivan (Lacey Twp./Donovan Catholic) was 1-2 with a run, two walks and a stolen base. Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) contributed a double and a walk in the game.

After Rowan got on a board in the bottom of the second, Stockton pulled ahead 2-1 with two runs in the top of the third. O'Sullivan walked and moved to second on a walk drawn by Marco Meleo (Freehold/Freehold Boro). He then stole third and later scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

With two outs, Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/St. John Vianney) singled home Meleo with the go-ahead run. The Profs tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth but Stockton again responded quickly to go back in front. An RBI single by Swift in the top of the fifth put the Ospreys ahead 3-2.

The slim lead lasted until the seventh inning when Rowan's Ryan McIsaac tied the game with a solo homer and Alex Kokos produced the eventual winning run with an RBI triple that gave the Profs a 4-3 edge. An insurance run in the eighth frame set the final score at 5-3.

Stockton starter Rico Viani (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing just one earned run plus one unearned on five hits. Viani struck out four batters in the outing but did not figure into the decision as Rowan rallied with three runs off the Stockton bullpen.

The Ospreys totaled six hits and drew seven walks off five Rowan pitchers in the game. Two of Stockton's three runs were unearned as the Ospreys capitalized on four errors by the Profs.

Stockton will finish the regular season with an NJAC doubleheader at 23rd-ranked William Paterson on Saturday with the first game starting at 11:3 a.m.
