Stockton Ends Regular Season with Sweep of NJCU

Jersey City, N.J. – Stockton University (8-16, 8-10 NJAC) scored 27 runs on 34 hits to end the regular season on a high note by sweeping New Jersey City (0-18, 0-18 NJAC) 17-4 and 10-1. Both games were stopped after five innings due to the run rule.
 
Meg Murzello (Maple Shade/Holy Cross) led the Ospreys with six hits, five runs and four RBI on the day. Angie Dunphy (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) contributed six hits, three runs and two RBI.
 
Murzello was 4-5 with a triple, three runs and two RBI in the opener. Dunphy, Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex), Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and Madison Kelly (Franklinville/Delsea) each stroked three hits.
 
James added a double and four RBI while Kelly notched a double and three RBI. Dignam scored three runs and drove in two more. Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) blasted a pair of two-run homers for four RBI. Patterson has a team-high five homers on the season.
 
Overall, 10 Ospreys stroked at least one hit in the game. The Ospreys scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings, highlighted by seven runs in the fourth frame on the way to the 17-4 rout.
 
Marissa Semeraro (Ridgefield/Ridgefield) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory. Semeraro allowed one hit and one walk and struck out two batters.
 
Dunphy went 3-4 with a run and an RBI in the second game. James was 2-4 with a double, three RBI and two runs. Murzello tallied two hits, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base while Vanessa Tancini (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) went 2-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
 
An RBI double by Tancini and an RBI single by Murzello in the second inning gave Stockton a 2-1 lead. In the fourth stanza, James ripped an RBI double and Dunphy added an RBI single to make it 4-1.
 
The Ospreys put the game away with six runs in the fifth inning for the 10-1 triumph. James and Gracie Meyer (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) each rapped two-run singles during the big inning.
 
Starting pitcher Stevie Unger (Tower City, Pa./Williams Valley) tossed the first four innings, striking out six while allowing just one run on two hits and one walk for the win.
 
Stockton will be the No. 6 seed for the NJAC Tournament and play a best-of-three series at No. 3 seed Montclair State on May 7-8.
