Selinsgrove, Pa. – Stockton University (1-6) played three matches in the Battle of the SU's at Susquehanna University. The Ospreys were swept by Salisbury University 3-0 on Friday night and then fell to Shenandoah and Susquehanna both by 3-1 scores on Saturday.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) topped the Ospreys with 39 kills followed by
Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands) with 31 kills at the tournament.
Against Salisbury, Leon led Stockton with 10 kills followed by Capriglione with nine.
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) finished with team highs of 22 assists and 12 digs. The set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 25-15 in favor of the Sea Gulls.
Capriglione spiked a career-high 15 kills followed by Leon with 13 and
Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) with 11 in the four-setter versus Shenandoah. Rentzel dealt 25 assists while
Alice Brandt (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) contributed 18 assists and 10 digs.
Three of the four sets were very close but the Ospreys came up just short in each. After dropping the first frame 26-24, Stockton evened the match by taking the second 25-15. Shenandoah nipped the Ospreys 25-23 and 26-24 in the third and fourth sets.
Leon tied her season high with 16 kills against Susquehanna in the final match of the weekend, followed by Capriglione and Ullmer with seven kills apiece. Capriglione also served a match-high six aces. Rentzel notched another double-double with 21 assists and 13 digs.
The teams split the first two sets as the home team won the 25-19 and Stockton tied the match by taking the second 25-16. Susquehanna then downed the Ospreys 25-16 and 25-22 to deal Stockton the 3-1 setback.
Stockton will play its home opener and first NJAC match of the season on Tuesday when the Ospreys host Rutgers-Newark at 7:00 p.m.
