Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-6, 1-0 NJAC) opened the NJAC conference season with a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Newark (1-5, 0-1 NJAC) on Tuesday night. The Ospreys won by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-21.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led Stockton with 11 kills and a game-high .474 hitting percentage on the evening.

Stockton took control of the first set with an 8-1 run that gave the home team a 14-6 margin, forcing the Scarlet Raiders into a timeout. It did not slow the Ospreys as they closed out the frame with a 25-12 win. Leon spiked four kills while
Caity Ullmer (Midland Park/Midland Park) and
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) add three each.

Set two was more of the same as Stockton was able to capture the period but not without a scare from the visitors. Rutgers Newark closed to 14-10 but the Ospreys ran off on an 11-3 spurt to take the set 25-13. Leon was at her best with four kills, with
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) dishing six assists in the set. Defensively, Stockton turned up the heat with six blocks as a team.

The final set looked to be academic, but the Raiders gave Stockton a scare late. The Ospreys posted a comfortable 17-7 margin and bumped up the lead to 24-15Â before Rutgers Newark ran off six straight points. Stockton was finally able to close out the final set and match with the 25-21 win.

In addition to Leon,
Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands) added nine kills while Rentzel led all players with 14 assists.
Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) topped the defense with 12 digs and served four aces.
Alice Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) chipped in with 12 assists and a match-high five aces as the Ospreys served 16 aces on the night.

Sharon Starling led the Scarlet Raiders with five kills and had six digs to tie Saniyah Richardson and Rebekah Barnes for team high. Angie Santos dished six assists to lead the team.

Stockton will have a quick turnaround as the Ospreys will host Cabrini tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The match is a rescheduled contest from September 1.
