Radnor, Pa. – After opening the season with five straight wins, Stockton University (5-1) fell from the unbeaten ranks with a 2-1 setback in a road game at Cabrini University (4-3).
Madison Maguire (Swedesboro/Kingsway) scored for the Ospreys.
Although Cabrini outshot Stockton 11-4 in the first half, the game remained scoreless in large part due to seven saves by Ospreys goaltender
Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca).
The Cavaliers registered the only three shots of the third quarter and cashed in with 1:37 left in the period as Caroline Gallagher got the home team on the board. Kelly Sweeney made it a 2-0 game just 48 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Maguire trimmed the deficit to 2-1 by scoring on a penalty corner with 12:18 on the clock. Cabrini stiffened defensively from there, holding Stockton to only one shot and one penalty corner the rest of the way to deal the Ospreys their first defeat of the season.
Mitchell finished with a season-high 10 saves for Stockton while her counterpart Courtney Keith earned the win with three stops for Cabrini. Stockton back
Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) was credited with a defensive save.
After playing three straight road games, Stockton returns home to host Elizabethtown on Saturday at 1 p.m.
