Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (6-1) snapped a 1-1 tie with seven minutes remaining and edged Elizabethtown (2-4) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Madison Maguire (Swedesboro/Kingsway) scored the game-winning goal for the Ospreys.
After an uneventful first quarter, each team generated a quality chance in the second period. Elizabethtown's Maeve Keeney fired a blast that Stockton goaltender
Alley Harris (Mullica HillDelsea) deflected off the post to keep the game scoreless.
Stockton later cashed in as
Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) created a shooting lane with a nifty spin move and found the cage with a backhand shot to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead.
Stockton ramped up the offense in the third quarter, outshooting the Blue Jays 9-1, but Elizabethtown goalie Angelina Giglio-Tos made seven saves to keep the margin at just one.
Just 2:54 into the fourth quarter, Riley Stephan got to a loose ball and scored the equalizer for a 1-1 tie. The deadlock lasted for a little over five minutes before Stockton took the lead for good.
Jamilyn Hawkins (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) dug a loose ball out of a crowd of players and pushed it into open space. Maguire then shoveled a shot that squirted through an Elizabethtown defender who got a piece of the ball and nearly made a defensive save at the right post.
The goal, Maguire's seventh of the season, came with seven minutes remaining and proved to be the difference as Stockton prevailed 2-1.
Harris earned the victory in goal with four saves. Giglio-Tos finished with a dozen stops for Elizabethtown.
Stockton's next game will be at Alvernia on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
