Stockton Evens Record with 5-1 Win Over John Jay

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (4-4) evened their record on the season with a 5-1 victory over John Jay (0-4) on Saturday afternoon. Dante Montesinos (West Long Branch/Shore Regional) scored a pair of goals to lead the Ospreys.

Stockton pressured the Bloodhounds from the start, eventually leading to the first goal of the match at the 34:04 mark. Michael Echeverria (Linden/St. Joseph) gave the Ospreys 1-0 lead. He got around the goalkeeper on the end line and tapped in his first of the season.

After John Jay knotted the score with 16:50 left in the half, Ervin Gjeli (Hasbrouck Heights/Hasbrouck Heights) potted his fourth tally of the season on a penalty kick. His score at 12:19 pushed Stockton ahead 2-1 at the break and became the eventual game-winning goal.

It was all Ospreys in the final stanza as the home team nailed three goals while holding the visitors scoreless. Brendan Deal (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) took a heading pass from Jon Schwab (Scotch Plains/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), and made a move around the goalie to make it 3-1.

Three minutes later, Montesinos would convert another penalty kick for his third of the season, then the senior would cap off the scoring at 6:53 to make it 5-1. He blasted his fourth marker of the year from 10 yards out to set the final score at 5-1.

Stockton held a massive 30-7 advantage on shots with 14 on net in the match, and 9-1 on corner kicks.

Liam Brett (Palmyra/Palmyra) got his first start of the year in net and kicked out four shots in gaining the victory. Jesus Perez played the first 83:27 in goal for John Jay, making nine saves. Tyler Solis finished up, without making a save in the net.

Stockton will play the second of three straight matches at home on Tuesday, when the Ospreys will take on Haverford in Galloway. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
