Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (4-9, 2-0 NJAC) dropped a tight first set before pulling away over the next three frames to post a 3-1 win over Rutgers-Camden (7-4, 0-2) with set scores of 24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16.
Charlotte Leon (Northport, N.Y./Northport) led the Ospreys with a match-high 17 kills.
Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands) spiked 13 kills as she and Leon carried the offense with 30 of the team's 48 kills in the match.
Setter
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) dealt a career-high 38 assists and added seven digs plus three kills.
Molly Eng (New Providence/New Providence) gave the Ospreys a lift with match highs of 14 digs and four aces while
Sophia Marziello (Haddonfield/Paul VI) chipped in with 12 digs.
Trailing 24-19 in the first set, Stockton staved off five set points to pull into a 24-24 tie before Rutgers-Camden scored two straight tallies to win 26-24. The Ospreys trailed 18-16 in the second set but closed with a 9-2 run highlighted by two kills from Capriglione and one from Rentzel to even the match 25-20 and seize the momentum.
In the third set, Stockton reeled off nine straight points to open up a 20-8 lead on the way to a 25-17 triumph.
Alice Brandt (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park) served two aces and Eng notched one as the Ospreys raced out to an 11-3 advantage in the fourth set. Stockton cruised from there, closing out the match 25-16.
Stockton will host Rowan University in an NJAC match on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
