Stockton Holds on to Upset Rowan 67-64

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-10, 6-6 NJAC) scored a huge win in NJAC play with a 67-64 victory over Rowan University (11-7, 8-3 NJAC) on Wednesday night. Freshman Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) came off the bench to score a game-high 22 points to lead all players.
 
With the game tied at 4-4 at the beginning, the Ospreys rattled off 10 straight points to take a 14-4 advantage. Five markers by Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) and a three ball by LaRosa spurred the home squad. The period finished with Stockton holding a 17-8 lead as they shot 55.6% (5-9) from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line.
 
The Ospreys kept up their hot shooting in the second frame outscoring the Profs 19-12. A pair of three balls each by LaRosa and Jordyn Madigan (Toms River/Toms River East) propelled Stockton to a 36-20 margin after one half of play.
 
Rowan pushed Stockton in the third frame, holding a 20-16 margin but only could slice the advantage to 52-40 after three quarters. The visitors kept the pressure up as the Ospreys hit a cold stretch to start the final quarter.
 
A 14-2 run by Rowan knotted the contest at 54-54 with 4:30 remaining in regulation, and again at 58-58 at the 1:18 mark. A big three pointer by Madigan gave the Ospreys a 61-58 lead with 50 seconds left that the home team would not relinquish. Stockton finished the contest by hitting 6-8 foul shots to clinch the 67-64 victory.
 
LaRosa hit 10-14 foul shots in her 22-point game, with a team-high three steals. Morrone scored a career-high 14 points, and Madigan tallied 12 points including a pair of big three-point baskets down the stretch.  Morrone and Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic) grabbed eight rebounds each for Stockton.
 
Dakota Adams led four Profs in double figures with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Eliana Santana scored 12 points with 11 rebounds, while teammates Nicole Mallard and Grace Marshall added 11 and 10 points respectively.
 
Stockton will take on Montclair State on Saturday for the team's next matchup. The contest in Montclair will be played at 1pm.
