Montclair, N.J. – Stockton University (16-3, 11-2 NJAC) started a busy stretch of six games in 13 days with a 90-78 victory over Montclair State (10-7, 6-6 NJAC) that was the fifth straight win for the Ospreys. Stockton broke the game open with 53 points in the second half.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led a balanced attack with 19 points, tying for game-high honors.
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) shot 6-8 (75%) from the floor and scored a career-high 17 markers.
Fresh off being chosen NJAC Player of the Week during the afternoon,
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) totaled 15 points plus game highs of nine rebounds and four steals.
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) also netted 15 counters to go with a game-high nine assists and six boards.
Milo De Los Santos (Hopewell Valley/Hopewell Valley) shot a perfect 3-3 from three-point range for nine points while
Nick Duncsak (Toms River/TR North) was 2-3 from beyond the arc for six markers. The duo combined for five of Stockton's nine three-pointers in the game on just six attempts.
The teams played an even first half that featured seven ties and a margin never more than five points. Campbell, Flanders and De Los Santos nailed consecutive three-pointers for a 9-0 spurt that vaulted Stockton into a 26-21 lead.
Montclair State countered with a 15-5 run that put the Ospreys down 36-31. Stockton led briefly in the last minute of the half before two late free throws gave the Red Hawks a 38-37 edge at the break.
Stockton unleashed an offensive barrage in the second half, shooting 56.3 percent from the floor (18-32) and 13-15 (86.7%) at the stripe on the way to a 53-40 scoring advantage. After two early ties, Lawrence and Dawkins scored three points apiece to lead an 8-0 outburst that gave the Ospreys 54-46 lead.
After Montclair State closed within two points twice, Stockton put the game away with 11 unanswered for a 67-54 advantage. From there, the Ospreys led by at least eight and as much as 14 over the final nine minutes of the game to record the 90-78 triumph.
Mike Jackson netted 19 points for Montclair State to tie Campbell for game-high. Keyon Price added 14 points and six assists for the Red Hawks.
Stockton will hit the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at The College of New Jersey at 8 p.m.
