Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (11-2, 6-1) sanpped a 62-62 tie by outscoring William Paterson (7-5, 2-3 NJAC) 13-7 in the last 5:22 for a 75-69 road victory in conference play. The Ospreys both led by 11 and trailed by five during the second half before securing the win.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) followed up a 28-point outing on Wednesday with a game-high 27 points against WPU for his sixth 20-plus performance in Stockton's 13 games thus far. Campbell hit five three-pointers and also snagged nine rebounds to tie for game-high honors.
Luciano Lubrano (Ocean City/Ocean City) tallied 12 points and a team-high four assists.
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) went 4-5 from the floor and finished with 11 points.
Alan Glover (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) came off the bench to shoot a perfect 3-3 from the field and score eight points in 11 minutes.
In the first half, Stockton used a 14-4 run to turn a 17-17 tie into a 31-21 lead. Glover led the spurt with six points. Dawkins later sank a three-pointer with five seconds left to give the Ospreys their largest lead of 37-26 at the break.
Seven of Stockton's 13 first-half field goals were three-pointers. Dawkins shot a flawless 3-3 from the floor and scored a team-high nine points followed by Campbell by eight in the half. Glover chipped in with six points in just four minutes played. Overall, 11 Ospreys saw action and seven netted points.
The advantage reached 11 again at 39-28 on a basket by Glover with 17:11 on the clock, but the game tightened from there. William Paterson reeled off 15 unanswered points by vault ahead 44-39 before Campbell ended Stockton's three-minute drought with a layup.
The game then was tied six times in a six-minute span, with the last deadlock being 62-62 with 6:23 to play. Campbell sank a free throw and followed with a three-pointer that put the Ospreys on top 66-62. WPU got within two at 66-64 and 68-66, but
Rynell Lawrence (Millville/Millville) scored baskets each time to increase the lead back to four.
After the Pioneers made it a one-possession game again at 70-68 with 1:29 left, three free throws by Campbell and two by Lubrano sealed the victory as Stockton prevailed 75-69.
Brian Monaghan topped William Paterson with 15 points followed by Yvens Monfleury and Neftali Valentin with 11 markers apiece.
Stockton is scheduled to play four of its next five games at home, beginning with a rematch of last year's NJAC championship game against New Jersey City on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
