Stockton Doomed by Slow Start in 56-44 Setback

Wayne, N.J. – Stockton University (5-8, 3-4 NJAC) got off to a slow start and was unable to recover as the Ospreys fell to William Paterson (7-4, 4-1 NJAC) by a 56-44 count in an NJAC road game. Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) was the lone Osprey in double figures with 13 points.

Freshman Jaiden Harris (Lindenwold/OLMA) chipped in with eight points in 16 minutes off the bench. LaRosa (6-13) and Harris (4-6) shot a combined 10-19 (52.6%) to lead the offense.

Stockton outrebounded William Paterson 41-36 behind a career-high 11 boards by Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic) to lead all players, plus 10 caroms for Ionyonia Alves (Mays Landing/Oakcrest).

After Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) sank a jumper for the first points of the game, WPU outscored the Ospreys 17-1 during the rest of the first quarter for a 17-3 count. Stockton responded with an 18-10 advantage in the second quarter behind six points by Harris and five from LaRosa.

When Harris sank a layup with two seconds remaining, the Ospreys were within 27-21 at the intermission. Stockton got back into the game by shooting 44.4 percent from the floor in the second quarter after a 1-12 (8.3%) opening stanza.

The Ospreys were unable to sustain the momentum in the third period as William Paterson used a 12-2 run to make the score 39-25. The margin grew to 15 points, 48-33, after three. Stockton won a low-scoring fourth quarter 11-8 but never got closer than 10 points on the way to the 56-44 defeat.

Yakira Rosa topped four William Paterson players in double figures with a game-high 16 markers. Precious Allah contributed 11 points. Rosa and Allah tied for the game lead with four assists apiece.
