Stockton Plays 0-0 Draw Against Kean

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (5-5-2, 0-2-1 NJAC) played a frustrating 0-0 draw with Kean University (3-5-3, 0-2-1 NJAC) on a misty afternoon at the Stockton Turf Field. The Ospreys earned their first point in the NJAC standings with the tie.

Stockton doubled the Cougars 12-6 in shots and 6-3 in shots on goal. The Ospreys also had a sizable 8-2 advantage in corner kicks and spent much more time on the offensive side than on the defensive side, but they were unable to break through for a goal.

Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) and Emily Hauck (Lebanon, Pa./Northern Lebanon) drove the attack in the middle of the field, with back Sophia Drea (Medford/Shawnee) flying forward to join the rush from her defensive position throughout the game.

The Ospreys outshot Kean 6-1 in the first half and held a slight 6-5 edge in shots during the second half. Freshman Logan Shaw (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) nearly scored on a corner kick in the first stanza, but her header bounced off a Kean defender who was guarding the far post.

Freshman goalkeeper Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) earned her first career shutout with three saves. Keil made a kick save with 24 minutes remaining in the match to thwart Kean's only quality scoring chance of the afternoon.

Kean keeper Abigail Wing made four stops in the first 36:22 before exiting with an injury. Julia Masucci finished the combined shutout with one save the rest of the way.

Stockton will play two games on the road next week, starting with a non-conference match against NYU on October 5 that will be played at New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. The start time is 7 p.m.
