Stockton Stunned by Pioneers in Overtime

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-6, 0-3 NJAC) fell to William Paterson (2-5, 1-2 NJAC) by a 2-1 score in overtime on Tuesday night. Makenna LeHenaff (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) tallied the Osprey marker in the match.

After a scoreless first period, the Pioneers broke through at 25:37 of the second period, when Megan Hoopes tipped in a goal after a scrum in front for a 1-0 advantage. That score would last until three seconds remained in the half, when LeHenaff took a penalty corner insert from Kirsten Bailey (Burlington/Burlington Twp.).

The sophomore blasted a low shot to the lower left-hand corner for her third goal of the season and a 1-1 deadlock at the break.

Stockton turned up the pressure in the final two frames of regulation, outshooting the visitors 9-1, but could not push across a tally and the game went to an overtime period.

1:03 into the extra frame, Hoopes found Adrian Dieckman and her tip-in gave the Pioneers the 2-1 victory.

The Ospreys totaled 14 shots, eight on goal, with Alexandria Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview) and LeHenaff combining for 11 attempts and six shots on goal on the day.

Goalkeeper Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made two saves for Stockton.

Kourtney Hartzel kicked out seven shots in goal for the Pioneers earning the win.

The Ospreys will take on Ramapo College on Saturday for their next match at home. Game time is 12 pm on the Stockton Turf Field.
