Stockton Furious Rally Falls Short 4-3

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (6-7-2, 1-3-1 NJAC) staged a furious second half rally, but fell one goal short to The College of New Jersey (11-1-1, 5-0 NJAC) by a 4-3 score on Wednesday night. Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Ospreys. TCNJ is ranked #12 by the United Soccer Coaches.

Stockton fell behind the Lions at the 27:04 mark to trail 1-0. The nationally ranked visitors then potted a pair of goals 2:22 apart for a 3-0 lead at the half. Stockton was outshot 12-5 during the first 45 minutes of play.

After the Lions scored 4:08 into the second frame to make it 4-0, Stockton came roaring back. 32 seconds after the TCNJ marker, Allie Magas (Lambertville/South Hunterdon) took a long pass from Riley Finnegan (Pennington/Hopewell Valley) and scored her first of the season to cut the lead to 4-1.

Williams deposited her fourth tally of the season in the 77th minute off a free kick from 20 yards out to slice the margin in half at 4-2.

At 84:15 the Ospreys were awarded a penalty kick. Williams took the shot and was denied, however Emily Hauck (Lebanon, PA/Northern Lebanon) pounced on the rebound to score her first goal of the season and it was 4-3. That was as close as the Ospreys would get as TCNJ would come up with the one goal victory.

Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) made eight saves in net for the Ospreys.

Lindsey O'Keefe scored her 11th goal of the year, with Ivonne Vasquez tallying a pair of goals. Victoria D'Imperio scored her 10th marker of the year for the Lions. Corinne Byrum made five saves in picking up the win in net.

Stockton will continue their conference schedule when the Ospreys host New Jersey City on Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 3 pm.
