Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-7-2, 2-3-1 NJAC) won for the second time in three matches, with a 2-1 win over New Jersey City (4-7-3, 1-5-0 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Rylee Getter (Galloway/Absegami) and
Erica Dietz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) potted the goals for the Ospreys.
Getter got the home team on the board at 19:45 of the first half, when she took a pass from freshman
Kate Samuels (Pennsville/Pennsville) for her second score of the year. Her shot to the top right corner put Stockton ahead 1-0 and the lead would hold through the rest of the half.
The Ospreys scored what would turn out to be the game-winner in the 59th minute. Dietz took a pass from
Sydney Williams (Millville/Millville) and her fourth goal of the season made it 2-0. NJCU would not relent as the visitors scored off a giveaway in the 71st minute to make it close at 2-1.
But the Stockton defense was up to the task and kept the Gothic Knights off the board to secure the 2-1 victory. Stockton held a 14-2 shots advantage and 8-1 on net for the match.
Morgan Keil (Upper Twp./Holy Spirit) did not have to make a save in net for the Ospreys in gaining the win.
Sophia Mannino kicked away six shots, many from close range, for NJCU in goal.
Stockton will play three matches next week, starting on Monday when the Ospreys will travel to Chestertown, MD to face Washington College in a non-conference tilt. Game time is 7pm.
