Brooklyn, N.Y. – Stockton University (16-7) had its nine-match winning streak stopped with a 3-0 setback to NYU (19-4), which is ranked eighth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll. The defeat was the first suffered the Ospreys in four weeks.
Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) paced Stockton with 10 kills, followed by
Emma Capriglione (Tuckerton/Pinelands) and
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) with seven kills apiece.
Witherspoon also registered four blocks.
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) notched team highs of 15 assists and eight digs.
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) dished 12 assists and scooped six digs.
Stockton stayed close for the first half of the opening set before NYU outscored the Ospreys 11-5 for a 25-17 final. Stockton fell behind 12-5 in the second set but fought back to tie 22-22 on a kill by Capriglione before the Violets scored three of the next four points to edge the Ospreys 25-23.
In the third set, Stockton surrendered the first five points and later fell victim to a 6-1 run by NYU that clinched the match 25-16.
Stockton will face more tough competition at the Stevens Invitational tomorrow as the Ospreys face #14 Wesleyan University and 18-6 Stevens at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
