Hoboken, N.J. – Stockton University (17-8) split its two matches at the Stevens Invitational. The Ospreys fell 3-0 to 14th-ranked Wesleyan University (19-2) but rebounded to edge Stevens (18-9) 3-2.
Against Wesleyan, Stockton's second straight ranked opponent,
Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) led the Ospreys with nine kills followed by
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) with eight kills plus nine digs.
Setters
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) and
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) dished 14 and 11 assists respectively, with Rentzel also serving three aces.
Molly Eng (New Providence/New Providence) chipped in with 10 digs and three aces.
Stockton was close in all three sets, falling 25-21, 25-20 and 25-20.
Louer led four Ospreys in double figures with 13 kills in the win over Stevens.
Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) pounded 11 kills followed by Green and
Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) with 10 kills apiece. Louer also snagged 17 digs to complete a double-double.
Rentzel handed out 26 assists and Mendick added 17 assists. Eng led the Ospreys with 18 digs and four aces.
Stockton won the first two sets 26-24 and 25-18 but Stevens seized the momentum and evened the match 25-19 and 25-23. Four kills by Witherspoon sparked the Ospreys to a 7-1 lead in the fifth set, and they stayed in front to win 15-10.
