Newark, NJ – Stockton University (10-13, 8-9 NJAC) survived a fourth quarter rally from Rutgers-Newark (4-17, 2-15 NJAC) to garner a close 52-46 victory on Saturday night.
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) and
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) led the Ospreys with 14 points each. The pair shot a combined 16-20 at the free throw line in the game.

Stockton started fast as Morrone tallied seven of the points, with
Nalya Hill (Bloomfield/DePaul Catholic) pulling down seven boards in a 16-6 first quarter lead. The Ospreys shot 6-12 (50%) for the period while holding the Scarlet Raiders to just 16.7 % (2-12).

The home team outscored Stockton 9-6 in the second period, as the Ospreys tallied all of their points from the free throw line.
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.) shot 4-6 from the stripe, with LaRosa hitting both her freebies to offset 0-5 shooting, holding on for a 22-15 halftime lead.

The Ospreys rebounded nicely coming out of the break running out on a 12-0 spurt and looked to take control of the game. Hill with six points and LaRosa adding another five were the catalysts in the middle of the run. The Ospreys pulled away with a 17-9 quarter, while allowing just 3-15 (20%) shooting by the Raiders in forging a 41-24 lead.

The Scarlet Raiders weren't done as they came out firing in the fourth period. A 13-2 run closed the gap to 43-37 forcing Stockton into a timeout with 3:37 remaining in regulation. The home squad shot a perfect 5-5 from the floor that included a pair of three pointers during the run.

Hill scored a basket to slow the roll, but the Raiders kept the pressure up adding four more markers to close within 45-41 at the 1:02 mark. Samiyah Horton nailed a three ball with 26 ticks on the clock to close to 48-46, but that was as close as Rutgers-Newark would come. Four straight foul shots by LaRosa and Morrone sealed the 52-46 victory.

Hill added her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Jennings chipped in with seven points and eight boards, while Morrone pilfered a game-high five steals.

Elisha India Cross topped Rutgers-Newark with 13 points, while Horton chipped in with 12 markers. Fancy Janvier grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the squad.

Stockton will finish the regular season with a road game at New Jersey City on Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 6 pm.
