Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (11-14) built a 20-point lead in the second quarter and cruised to a 67-39 victory over Rutgers-Camden (2-18) in the first round of the NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys are the No. 7 seed for the conference tourney and the Scarlet Raptors were the No. 10 seed.
Jordyn Madigan (Toms River/TR East) went 4-6 (66.7%) from three-point range and scored a career-high 15 points to lead Stockton. Freshman
Jaiden Harris (Lindenwold/OLMA) grabbed 20 rebounds, the most by an Osprey in the last four years and two off the school record.
Adriyana Jennings (Camden/Winslow Twp.),
Madison LaRosa (Oceanport/Shore Regional) and
Kadinah Harris-Hood (Atlantic City/Atlantic City) contributed nine points apiece followed by Harris with eight. The Ospreys tied their season high with nine three-pointers in the victory.
After trailing 7-2 early, Stockton went on a 14-3 run that was capped by Madigan with consecutive three-pointers for a 16-10 lead. The Ospreys broke the game open with a 22-10 second quarter. They reeled off 13 unanswered points, led by
Emma Morrone (Maywood/Hackensack) with four, for a 37-17 advantage.
Stockton shot 50% (8-16) from the floor in the second period and led 38-21 at the break. LaRosa and Madigan topped all players with nine first-half points apiece.
The Ospreys stayed comfortably ahead throughout the second half, leading by at least 15 over the final two periods. Harris grabbed her 20th rebound of the game in the final minute, and her 20 boards are the most by an NJAC player in a game this season.
All 12 Stockton players in uniform saw at least three minutes of action, with freshman
Jade Mendoza (Downey, Calif./Absegami (NJ)) sinking a pair of late free throws for her first career points as the Ospreys notched the 67-39 triumph.
Rutgers-Camden's Rahzirah Blocker tied Madigan for game-high honors with 15 points followed by Salina Jones with seven markers plus a team-high eight rebounds for the Scarlet Raptors.
Stockton advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJAC Tournament, where they Ospreys will play at No. 2 seed Rowan University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The teams split their two regular season meetings, with each team winning on its home court.
