Stockton Splits Two Games in Sunshine State

Clermont, Fla. – Stockton University (4-2) split its two games in Florida for the second straight day. The Ospreys pounded Plattsburgh State 14-3 but then fell to The College of Wooster 9-5.
 
The Ospreys rapped 16 hits in the first game. Lilly James (Roseland/West Essex) led the way by going 3-5 with a double and two runs. Michaela Luyber (Bordentown/Bordentown) went 2-4 with a double and two RBI while Brianna Segnello (Mt. Olive/Mt. Olive) contributed two hits, three runs and two RBI.
 
Madison Kelly (Franklinville/Delsea) and Gabrielle Barranger (Sicklerville/Haddonfield) each chipped in with two hits, one RBI and one run. After scoring once in the second inning, Stockton broke the game open with four runs in the fourth frame for a 5-0 lead.
 
The Ospreys tacked on three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh for the 14-3 triumph. Stevie Unger (Tower City, Pa./Williams Valley) pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts for the win.
 
Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West), Gracie Meyer (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) and Megan Dignam (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) knocked three hits apiece to lead a 13-hit effort against Wooster. Patterson and Brittany Rifenburg (Spotswood/Spotswood) each tallied one hit and two RBI.
 
Wooster built a 5-0 lead in the first three-and-a-half innings. After scoring one in the bottom of the fourth, Stockton tied the game 5-5 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. A two-run triple by Patterson was the key blow in the rally.
 
The Scots responded with four runs of their own on four hits and a walk in the top of the seventh, all with two outs, to down the Ospreys 9-5.
 
Stockton will play two more games tomorrow, facing Millikin University at 10:30 a.m. followed by Wisconsin-La Crosse at 12:45 p.m.
