Tampa, FL –Stockton University (6-4-1) was held down offensively by NYU (5-0) and dropped an 11-6 decision on Tuesday afternoon. Six different Ospreys had one hit each in the game. The game was played at George Steinbrenner Field, which serves as the spring home to the New York Yankees, and summer home to the Yankees class A-Advanced affiliate Tampa Tarpons.

The Violets opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, scoring twice on three hits for a two-run margin. NYU pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the fifth frame for a 5-0 advantage.

Stockton broke into the scoring column in the top half of the sixth frame when
John Perrino (Wall/Wall) walked.
Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) reached on an error and advanced to second on the play allowing Perrino to score to slice the lead to 5-1.

The Violets roared back with a three spot in their part of the sixth to stretch the margin to 8-1, but the Ospreys would fight back again. In the top of the seventh inning
Thomas Elgrim (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) singled and
Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/St. John Vianney) walked. A wild pitch moved the runners up one base.

Another wild pitch allowed Elgrim to score before
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) plated Fabrizzi to cut the lead to 8-3. NYU tallied one more run to push the margin to 9-3 before Stockton made on last run at the win.

In the top of the eighth inning,
Ryan Mihlebach (Clarksboro/GCIT) singled and stole second.
Mike Costanzo (Williamstown/Williamstown) walked, bringing up
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) to single in Mihlebach.
Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Elgrim, who's sacrifice fly scored Costanzo to make it 9-5.

Giovanni Sciarrotta (Barnegat/Steinert) singled in Nitti, but the rally ended there at 9-6 in favor of the Violets. Two more markers in the bottom of the eighth inning set the final score at 11-6 in favor of the unbeaten Violets.

Michael Wynne (Howell/Howell) the first of six Ospreys hurlers on the day, started and tossed four innings allowing just five hits and striking out four in taking the loss.

The Ospreys will have tomorrow off, before returning to play on Thursday against SUNY Brockport in Auburndale, FL. Game time is scheduled for 10:15 am.
