Poli Scores 100th Career Goal As Stockton Rolls to 24-12 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-2) exploded for nine straight goals between the first and second periods and rolled to a 24-12 victory over Maritime (2-5) on Saturday afternoon.

Dante Poli (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) scored a career-high 11 points with six goals and five assists, that included his 100th career tally to lead the Ospreys.

The Privateers started strong, hitting the net three times to offset a pair by Poli for an early 3-2 lead with 7:06 left in the opening frame. Stockton then ripped off five consecutive markers, two by Reegan Capozzoli (Wayne/Wayne Valley).

Capozzoli and Poli scored within 25 seconds of each other to finish out the period with the Ospreys ahead 7-3. The last goal of the period was the milestone marker for Poli.

Stockton didn't stop there as Tyler Horvath (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks South) won the face-off to start the second period and raced in for a tally just six seconds in.  Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph), Aidan Shandley (Springfield, PA/Springfield-Delco) and Hayden Smallwood (Margate/Ocean City) capped the outburst to put the Ospreys ahead 11-3 with 11 minutes left in the half.

After a Maritime goal, the Ospreys punched in five more tallies and led 16-5 at the break. The Privateers fought back in the third period, scoring five goals to just a lone Osprey marker by Swedlund to slice the lead to 17-10 after three quarters of play.

But Stockton pulled away in the final frame scoring seven more times, to two for the Privateers, to set the final score at 24-12 in favor of the home squad.

Poli became the 14th Osprey to achieve the 100-goal mark and his point total was just one off the single game record of 12 set by Nick Bologno, who did it twice. Swedlund also had six goals, with Eric D'Arminio (Roxbury/Roxbury) chipping in with two goals and three assists for five points.

Capozzoli added two assists to his two goals for a four-point day, while freshman Connor Albrecht (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) scorer his first career tally.

Goalkeeper Eric Lindskog made nine saves, with Horvath winning 22-31 (.710) face-offs and scooping 11 ground balls to top all players.

Kyle Orton led the visitors with three goals and one assist for four points. Jack Deresta started in net for the Privateers, playing the first half and made 12 saves. Michael Monahan finished up the second half and kicked out 11 shots.

The Ospreys will be off until next Saturday when they will face Misericordia at home. The match to be played at G. Larry James Stadium is scheduled for 2 pm.
