Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (4-3) used a big-scoring second period to defeat Widener University (5-2) by a score of 11-6 on Wednesday evening.
Michelle Pascrell (Howell/Freehold Twp.) scored five goals, including the 100th of her career to lead the Ospreys.
Pascrell opened the scoring just 42 seconds into the contest on an assist from
Holly Yannacone (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) for a quick 1-0 lead. The Pride answered back just over a minute later to knot the game at 1-1.
Casey Shultz (Sewell/Washington Twp.) tallied to make it 2-1 before the visitors tied it up at 2-2 at the end of the first frame.
Stockton took control of the match in the second period, outscoring the Pride 5-0 in the period for a commanding 7-2 advantage.
Shultz scored twice, Yannacone, and Pascrell all scored markers, before
Allie Bremer (Oakland/Indian Hills) ended the outburst with a goal from Shultz for the five-goal margin at the break.
A pair of goals by Widener to open the third quarter sliced the lead to 7-4 before Pascrell scored her milestone goal at 6:39 of the third period. Shultz added another tally 34 seconds later to regain the five-goal margin at 9-4 after three periods.
Two more markers by Pascrell offset two by Widener in the final stanza to set the final score at 11-6 for Stockton.
In addition to her five goals, Pascrell added game-highs of seven ground balls and six draw controls. Shultz had a five-point night with four goals and an assist, with
Jennifer Toal (Pine Beach/Toms River South) topped all players with five caused turnovers. Goalkeeper
Jordan Hawkes (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) made a career-high nine saves for the victory.
Gab Cohen and Katie Ward scored two goals each for Widener, with goaltender Maddie Medve kicking out 13 shots.
Stockton will be off until next Tuesday when the Ospreys will travel to Cabrini University in Radnor, PA. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm.
