Radnor, Pa. – Stockton University (13-13) had difficulty generating offense in a pair of setbacks to Cabrini University (15-8) by scores of 3-1 and 4-3. The Ospreys scored just two runs in the first 13 innings of the doubleheader.
Gracie Meyer (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick) paced Stockton with three of the team's 11 hits on the day.
Jenna Patterson (Mullica Hill/Clearview) smacked a double in the first game and a home run in the second contest.
Doubles by Patterson and
Kayla Posten (Cherry Hill/CH West) plus a single by Meyer were the only hits for Stockton in the opener. Posten led off the sixth inning with a double and later scored on an RBI single by Meyer to tie the game 1-1 but Cabrini responded with two runs in the bottom half for the 3-1 final.
Freshman
Nicole Smith (Mt. Bethel, Pa./Bangor Area) started and pitched the first three innings, allowing one run on two hits, but the rookie was not involved in the decision.
In the nightcap, Meyer went 2-3 and Patterson slugged her second homer of the season. Cabrini scored two runs in the each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead. Patterson got Stockton on the board with a solo blast in the fourth frame to make it 4-1.
The Ospreys tried to rally in the seventh inning.
Charli Czaczkowski led off with a double, stole third and scored on an RBI double by
Stevie Unger (Tower City, Pa./Williams Valley).
Samantha McErlane (Mt. Ephraim/Audubon) singled with one out to move Unger to third base, and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Posten to draw within 4-3.
Stockton had the tying run on third with two outs, but they could not capitalize as a groundout ended the game with the Ospreys suffering their fifth loss of the season by two runs or less. In addition to her RBI double, Unger pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit and one walk.
After playing two straight doubleheaders on the road, Stockton will host New Jersey City in a pair of NJAC games on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
