Stockton Falls to Rutgers-Camden 12-11

Camden, NJ –Just a day after Stockton University (13-14-1, 4-4 NJAC) scored a walk off victory over Rutgers-Camden (16-12, 3-5 NJAC), the Scarlet Raptors returned the favor, capturing a 12-11 win in the bottom of the ninth against the Ospreys on Friday afternoon. Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) and Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) led the Ospreys with three hits each in the 15-hit attack.

The Scarlet Raptors plated a run in the first before Stockton answered with a single marker in the second for a 1-1 tie. The Ospreys scored a pair in the fourth frame on a Ford 2-RBI single for a brief 3-1 lead.

Camden came right back in their half of the fifth with three runs, courtesy of Jack Murphy's three-run blast. His ninth round-tripper of the year tied the single season mark at Rutgers-Camden and gave the home squad a 4-3 advantage after five frames.

Stockton knotted the contest the next inning as Ryan Mihlebach (Clarksboro/GCIT) tripled and later scored on an error for the 4-4 tie. Stockton added three more markers in the seventh inning of the high-scoring affair to again take a brief 7-4 lead.

Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) single and scored on a John Perrino (Wall/Wall) double. Nitti followed with another double to score Perrino before Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) finished off the three-run rally with the third two-bagger of the stanza, knocking in Perrino.

The advantage didn't last long as the home team scored six times in their half of the seventh with six runs on four hits to re-gain the lead at 10-7. Elder rapped a sacrifice fly to slice the margin to 10-8 in the eighth, then Stockton plated three more in the top of the ninth to take a 11-10 margin.

Meleo singled and Sam Nieves (South Plainfield/South Plainfield) doubled putting runners at second and third, before Mihlebach scored Meleo with a sac fly. Giovanni Sciarrotta (Barnegat/Steinert) scored Nieves with a single for the one run lead.

Rutgers-Camden then walked off the Ospreys much like Stockton had done to the Raptors yesterday. With two away, two walks and an error loaded the bases. Connor Van Dine singled through the right side and scored two runners to give Rutgers-Camden the 12-11 walk-off victory and a split of the home-and-home series.

Elder, Meleo and Sciarrotta all added two hits to the attack, with the freshman catcher Sciarrotta scoring three times and Ford picking up three RBI on the day.

Andrew Brown topped the Raptors with four hits, with Frankie Romond getting three safeties. Brown and Romond also had two RBI and Murphy totaled three RBI on his home run.

Stockton will return home to face William Paterson tomorrow in an NJAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 am in Galloway.
