Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-16-1, 4-6 NJAC) was swept in a doubleheader by William Paterson (21-9, 6-3 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon by scores of 11-6 and 15-1.
Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/St. John Vianney) led the Ospreys with five hits on the day.
In game one, the Pioneers blasted two run home runs in the first two frames for a quick 4-0 lead, until Stockton batted in the bottom of the second inning. Singles by
Thomas Elgrim (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) and Fabrizzi put runners on first and second with one away. Â
Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) plated Elgrim, then
Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) scored Fabrizzi to cut the margin in half at 4-2. After an error advanced the runners, and a balk scored Ford and the lead was 4-3 after two frames. One inning later, the Ospreys scored three more times for a 6-4 advantage.
Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) singled, stole second and advanced to third on the ensuing throwing error. An infield hit by
Ryan Mihlebach (Clarksboro/GCIT) scored Nitti and the game was tied at 4-4. He later would score on a Fabrizzi RBI single. Fabrizzi would count the sixth run on a triple by
Giovanni Sciarrotta (Barnegat/Steinert) for the 6-4 lead after three innings.
Unfortunately, it would be the last runs of the game for the home team, as Stockton was held down with just two hits the rest of the game. William Paterson scored seven runs in the final three innings to capture the contest 11-6.
Mike Schiattarella (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) pitched the first seven innings, striking out five but did not figure in the decision. Elder led the 13-hit attack in the opener with four hits, while Fabrizzi added three safeties and scored twice.
In the night cap, Stockton scored the first run of the game in their half of the third inning. Nitti tripled and scored on a
Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers came right back in the top of the fourth inning, scoring four times on four hits for a 4-1 lead.
That was all Ian Metzger would need as the right hander scattered nine hits and striking out eight in the complete game victory. William Paterson belted out 18 hits and 15 runs in support of Metzger in the 15-1 rout.
Elgrim topped the home squad with three hits in the game, with Fabrizzi and Nitti rapping out a pair of hits each.
