Late Rally Falls Short in Loss To TCNJ

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-18-1, 4-7 NJAC) staged a last inning rally, but came up on the short end of an 8-6 loss to The College of New Jersey (13-14, 4-7 NJAC) on Thursday afternoon. Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/St. John Vianney), Tucker Elder (Ewing/Ewing) and Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) had two hits each in the game.

The Lions broke out on top with three runs in the second and two more each in the following two frames to take a 7-1 lead after four innings. The Ospreys lone run came around on a Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) grounder in the home third inning.

Both teams added a run in the sixth inning, before Stockton attempted their comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning. Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) doubled, and Ryan Mihlebach (Clarksboro/GCIT) walked. With one away, Fabrizzi drew a walk loading the bases. Giovanni Sciarrotta (Barnegat/Steinert) bounced into a fielder's choice scoring Meleo to make it 8-3.

Ford followed with a ringing double to score Sciarrotta and Mihlebach to bring the Ospreys within two runs, but the rally ended there and set the final score at 8-6.

Ford led the team with two RBI, with Sciarrotta scoring twice. Freshman Evan Pollack (Neptune/St. John Vianney) came on in relief and tossed a career high 6.2 innings, scattering five hits and keeping the Ospreys in the contest.

Chris Reeder and Joey Cruciata had two RBI each for the Lions, with Reeder blasting his fourth homer of the season.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow in the home-and- home series in Ewing, NJ. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
