Stockton Falls 8-6 on Late-Inning Rally by Arcadia

Ambler, Pa. – Stockton University (10-10-1) led eighth-ranked Arcadia University (22-3) 6-3 after seven innings but saw the lead evaporate as the Knights scored five runs in the eighth frame to down the Ospreys 8-6. The teams each stroked 12 hits and allowed four earned runs.

John Perrino (Wall/Wall) went 4-5 with a double, two runs, a stolen base and a walk. Freshman Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton) was 2-5 with a double and four RBI.

Perrino singled and later scored an unearned run in the top of the first, but Arcadia matched with one score in the bottom half. Perrino singled and scored another unearned run in the top of the third for a short-lived 2-1 edge. The Knights pulled ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the third.

The Ospreys went back in front 4-3 on a two-run double by Ford in the sixth inning and upped the advantage to 6-3 on a two-run single by Ford in the seventh frame. Arcadia rallied with five runs on three hits and two Stockton errors in the eighth inning. Three of the five tallies were unearned.

The Ospreys got two runners aboard with one out in the ninth but were unable to push any runs across, and they suffered the 8-6 setback. Tommy Talbot (Howell/Howell) and freshman Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) contributed two hits and a stolen base apiece. Talbot also scored once.

Stockton used six pitchers, with Michael Wynne (Howell/Howell) tossing a team-high four innings and allowing just two runs.

The Ospreys will dive into conference play with a NJAC game at Kean University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
