Stockton Drops Pair of Games at #14 Kean

Union, N.J. – Stockton University (10-12-1, 1-3 NJAC) was stymied offensively by #14 Kean University (21-5, 4-0 NJAC) in a pair of defeats by scores of 9-0 and 8-1. After the previous day's game was rained out, the teams met for a doubleheader.

The Ospreys were held to just two hits in the first game, one single apiece by Thomas Elgrim (Fair Haven/Rumson-Fair Haven) and Luke Fabrizzi (Old Bridge/St. John Vianney). Stockton's first 14 batters were retired in order before Elgrim singled in the fifth inning.

Kean scored two runs apiece in each of the first two innings and added one more in the fourth. The Cougars put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 9-0 final.

Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) went 2-4 with a double and a run in the nightcap. Elgrim was 1-4 with a double and an RBI for the Ospreys. Dominic Meleo (Freehold/St. Peter's Prep) contributed a hit and a stolen base.

Kean built an early 6-0 advantage with two runs in the first inning and four in the third stanza. The Cougars added one run in the top of the seventh before Stockton got on the board in the bottom half. Nitti led off with a double and scored on an RBI double by Elgrim two batters later.

The Cougars scored once more in the top of the ninth to set the final at 8-1. Stockton used four pitchers, highlighted by four scoreless innings from Phil Santa Maria (Absecon/ACIT) out of the bullpen.

Stockton returns home to host New Jersey City in an NJAC doubleheader tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
