Stockton Runs by Eastern 5-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-2) broke a two-match skid with a convincing 5-0 win over Eastern University (1-3) on Saturday afternoon. Madison Maguire (Swedesboro/Kingsway) paced the Ospreys with two goals on the day. Stockton overwhelmed the Eagles, outshooting the visitors 20-1 and holding a 16-1 advantage on penalty corners.

The Ospreys opened the scoring at the 10:53 mark of the first quarter when Jamilyn Hawkins (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) inserted a pass off a penalty corner to Ameera Bilgrami (Voorhees/Eastern). The sophomore blasted a shot that hit the back of the cage for her second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.

Freshman Kirsten Bailey (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) made it 2-0 on a penalty stroke less than three minutes later for a two-goal margin after one frame.

After a scoreless second period, Maguire posted her first marker of the game with a spectacular diving tip-in off a Bilgrami blast to make it 3-0 after three periods of play. Stockton kept the pressure on in the final frame, with Maguire tipping in another shot for her second goal of the game. Dakota Ludman (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) tipped a pass forward off a scrum in front, where Maguire made it count for a 4-0 margin.

With less than three minutes to play, Jenna Fiorito (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) inserted a penalty corner. The ball found its way back to Fiorito who scored to set the final score at 5-0 in favor of the home team.

Goalkeeper Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made one save in net for the Ospreys, in registering her first shutout of the season and third in her career.
