Hoboken, N.J. – Stockton University (1-0) opened its four-match fall slate with a narrow 5-4 victory over Stevens. The triumph was win number 200 in the history of the Stockton women's tennis program, which has been in existence since 2001 and has a record of 200-88 (.694 win percentage) one match into its 22nd intercollegiate season.
The Ospreys captured two of the three doubles matches, both in tiebreakers.
Sarb Devi (Galloway/Absegami) and
Lily Muir (Robbinsville/Robinsville) edged their opponents 8-7 (7-5).
Sophia Pasquale (Galloway/Holy Spirit) and
Audrey van Schalkwyk (Haddon Hts./Paul VI) prevailed 8-7 (7-1).
The teams then split the six singles matches, resulting in the 5-4 triumph for Stockton. Pasquale cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win while van Schalkwyk outlasted her foe in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Freshman
Carlee Cristella (Mantua/Clearview) made a successful college debut with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Stockton will have a week off before playing at Delaware State next Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m.
