Aston, Pa. – Stockton University (5-3) won both of its matches on the first day of the Knights Invitational at Neumann University. The Ospreys swept Moravian 3-0 in their first match and then extended their win streak to five with a 3-2 victory over Cedar Crest.
The victory over Cedar Crest was the 900th win in the history of the Stockton volleyball program, which is in its 48th season of intercollegiate play since its inception in 1975. The program has a 900-504 all-time record (.641 win percentage).
Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) and
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led Stockton with 12 kills apiece in the 25-8, 25-14, 25-13 rout of Moravian. Freshman
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) dealt 18 assists and
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) contributed 13 assists.
Molly Eng (New Providence/New Providence) paced the back row with 12 digs. Freshman
Paige Anania (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) served five aces and scooped 11 digs.
Louer tied her career high with 18 kills to go with 12 digs and Green spiked 14 kills against Cedar Crest. Rentzel and Mendick registered doubles of 19 assists/11 digs and 16 assists/14 digs respectively. Eng topped the Ospreys with 19 digs.
The teams alternated set wins, with Stockton taking the opener 25-12 but Cedar Crest answering 25-21. The Ospreys dominated the third set 25-10 however Cedar Crest knotted the match again, 26-24. Stockton closed the fifth set with a 9-3 run to win 15-8 and take the match.
Stockton will play Gettysburg College tomorrow at noon to conclude its three-match stint at the Knights Invitational.
