Stockton Wins in Double Overtime 1-0

Oneonta, NY – Stockton University (6-2) extended their winning streak to five consecutive matches, with a thrilling 1-0 victory in double overtime against Oneonta (1-5) on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Makenna LeHenaff (Burlington/Burlington Twp.) scored the game winner for the Ospreys.It was the second straight match that Stockton has won in extra time.
 
The tightly contested game saw both defenses keep the game scoreless through the first half, with the Red Dragons holding a slim 4-2 advantage in shots. The home team turned up the pressure in the third frame, holding the Ospreys without a shot, but could not break through against the Stockton backline.
 
Stockton ratcheted up the offense in the fourth period with seven attempts, including four on net, but also could not break the deadlock.  Autumn Hunter (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) had two of the shots, but both were kicked away. The Ospreys had one last chance to win the game in regulation, but Oneonta came up strong at the end of the 60 minutes.
 
After a scoreless first extra frame, LeHenaff gave Stockton the win 6:13 into the second extra frame. After a Stockton penalty corner, the sophomore hit the back of the cage with her second goal of the season to give the Ospreys the victory.
 
Goalkeeper Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made four saves in net for the Ospreys, earning her sixth win of the season.
 
For Oneonta, Jennifer Tumino kicked out seven shots in net.
 
The Ospreys will take to the road for their next match, to face Widener University on Tuesday evening. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
