Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Stockton Downed by #20 Montclair State 1-0

Galloway, NJ –Stockton University (7-3-1, 0-2 NJAC) dropped their second straight match, falling to Montclair State 1-0 (7-1-3, 2-0 NJAC) on Wednesday evening. Freshman Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame) was the only Osprey to get a shot on net against the stifling Red Hawk defense in the game. The Red Hawks are ranked #20 nationally by United Soccer Coaches.

The visitors outshot Stockton 5-2 during the first half of play and had five corner kicks but could not convert. The closest Stockton came was at the 4:24 of the opening frame, when Joseph Carbone (Pequannock/Pequannock) fired a laser that banged off the near post. Hoenisch gathered the rebound, but it was kicked away as the match went scoreless through the rest of the half.

The Red Hawks scored the game's lone goal when Amer Lukovic fired a left footed shot to the low left corner that eluded Osprey netminder Liam Brett (Palmyra/Palmyra) just 1:14 into the final half for the 1-0 score.

The Ospreys came alive later in the period, pressing the action. In the 75th minute Sebi Morrello (North Caldwell/West Essex) squeezed off a shot that went wide. Stockton had a pair of corner kicks in the following three minutes but could not convert the opportunities and the final score was set at 1-0 in favor of Montclair State.

Brett made four saves in net for the Ospreys on the night.

John Becker had the assist on the game winner, with goalkeeper Shane Keenan making just the one save in the match.

The Ospreys will travel to Union, NJ on Saturday to face Kean University for the squad's next match. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
