Jersey City, N.J. – Stockton University (13-2, 8-1 NJAC) reached the halfway point of the conference schedule with a hard-fought 79-74 victory over New Jersey City (7-8, 2-6) that was the fourth straight win for the Ospreys. Four players combined for 63 of Stockton's 79 points.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) topped the quartet with a game-high 23 points. Campbell was 10-12 (83.3%) at the free throw line.
Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley) went a perfect 6-6 at the stripe and netted 16 points.
Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) and
Martin Anguelov (Cape May/Wildwood Catholic) also hit double figures with 14 and 10 points respectively.
Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) grabbed a game-high eight rebound and scored seven markers.
In the first half, Flanders led the way with 10 points followed by Campbell with nine and Dawkins with seven as Stockton built a 34-20 lead that was its largest of the game. The Gothic Knights then scored the last six points of the half to close the gap to 34-26 at the break.
The Ospreys led 36-26 after Dawkins opened the second half scoring with a jumper, and the game tightened from there. NJCU battled back to take two brief leads at 53-52 and then 55-54 with 8:22 on the clock.
Campbell exploded for eight points to lead a 12-1 run over the next two minutes that created some separation and put Stockton in front 66-56. The home team rallied to within 72-68 with 1:28 remaining, but Campbell sank two free throws to end the threat and the Ospreys went on to their fourth straight triumph, 79-74.
Kayton Darley paced NJCU with 20 points followed by Ryan Savoy with 16 markers and Jason Battle with 15.
Stockton will play at Rowan University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in an important showdown between the top two teams in the NJAC standings. The Profs defeated the Ospreys 109-98 back on November 22.
