Stockton Uses Early Goals to Down Rutgers-Camden 2-1

Camden, N.J. – Stockton University (9-2-5, 3-1-3 NJAC) scored two early goals and held off host Rutgers-Camden (8-5-3, 3-2-2 NJAC) for a key conference win by a 2-1 count. The victory boosted the Ospreys' unbeaten streak to six and moved them into fourth place with two league games remaining.

Joseph Carbone (Pequannock/Pequannock) and Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame) each scored in the first 29 minutes for the Ospreys. Carbone netted his fifth goal of the season with an assist by Antonio Matos (Hammonton/St. Augustine Prep) just 6:15 into the game for an early 1-0 lead.

Stockton was rewarded with a penalty kick in the 29th minute and Hoenisch stepped to the spot and buried his team-leading ninth marker of the season to make it 2-0. The tally was Hoenisch's sixth in the last five games and moved him to a perfect 4-4 on penalty kicks this season.

Defense became the priority for the Ospreys in the second half. Rutgers-Camden registered 10 shot attempts, including six on goal. A tally by Rohan Castillo with 22:16 left trimmed the Stockton lead to 2-1, but the Ospreys held off the Scarlet Raptors for the one-goal triumph.

Freshman goalkeeper Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) earned the win with six saves, four of which came in the last 21 minutes to preserve the lead. Sean Boen made one save for Rutgers-Camden.

Stockton will play its final home game of the regular season on Saturday morning when the Ospreys host Ramapo at 11:00 a.m.
