Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (17-8, 7-0 NJAC) outlasted William Paterson (19-5, 4-3 NJAC) 3-1 to clinch the NJAC regular season title and earn the No. 1 seed for the upcoming NJAC Tournament. The victory was Stockton's sixth in a row.
Three Ospreys reached double figures in kills led by
Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) with a match-high 16 spikes.
Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) and
Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) chipped in with 12 kills apiece.
Ashley Carkhuff (Hackettstown/Hackettstown) scooped a career-high 24 digs followed by
McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) with 19 digs. Setters
Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) and
Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) handed out 21 assists apiece and Rentzel served three aces.
Stockton dominated the first set 25-15 with a .312 team hitting percentage and four kills by Louer. Palmer and Louer tallied four kills apiece as the Ospreys captured the second stanza 25-18. Stockton was denied the sweep as the Pioneers took a close third set 25-22.
The score was tied 13 times in a lengthy fourth set. The Ospreys had difficulty closing out the match as William Paterson fended off four match points and then took a 28-27 edge. Stockton then reeled off three straight points to finally prevail 30-28 for the 3-1 triumph.
De La Torre and Palmer registered five kills apiece and Carkhuff delivered 10 digs in the final frame.
Natalie Zabloudil and Cecilia Miller paced WPU with 14 and 10 kills respectively. Abby Haupt contributed 31 assists and 18 digs. Paola Molina led all players with a match-high 29 digs for the Pioneers.
Stockton will continue its homestand by hosting 10th-ranked NYU on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
