Stockton Downed by #10 NYU

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (17-9) faced its toughest test of the season as the Ospreys hosted NYU (21-4), which is ranked 10th in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll. Stockton had its six-match winning streak snapped by the Violets with a 3-0 setback.

Teleyah Witherspoon (Hackensack/Hackensack) led the Ospreys with team highs of eight kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) and Nicole Palmer (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) contributed five kills apiece.

Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) handed out 12 assists while Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) registered seven assists and six digs. McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) topped Stockton with 10 digs.

The Ospreys were within 15-14 after a kill by Witherspoon in the first set, but NYU used a 10-3 run to down Stockton 25-17. Although Palmer and Witherspoon spiked three kills apiece in the second set, the Ospreys fell 25-15.

Witherspoon tallied three more kills in the third set, however the Violets prevailed 25-14 to end the match and halt Stockton's winning streak at six.

Grace Nelson led the balanced NYU attack with nine kills followed by Haley Holz and Camille Nazor with eight kills apiece. Ava Launsbach finished with 21 assists and 11 digs for the Violets.

Stockton will be right back on its home court tomorrow to host Stevens at 3:30 p.m.
