Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (11-3-5) scored two goals in each half and downed the sixth seed Rutgers-Newark (6-9-4) by a 4-1 score on Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the NJAC Tournament.
Joseph Carbone (Pequannock/Pequannock) and
Jake Homowitz (Tinton Falls/Christian Brothers Academy) led the fourth seeded Ospreys with a goal and assist each.
The Ospreys got on the board quickly when
Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame) tipped in a crossing pass from Carbone, to put the home team up 1-0 at the 15:11 mark of the opening half. In the 27th minute, Homowitz converted his third penalty kick of the season for his fourth marker of the year and a 2-0 lead that lasted the rest of the period.

Joseph A. Carbone (East Brunswick/East Brunswick) scored his second tally of the season off a pass from Homowitz. His shot to the top right corner gave Stockton a three goal advantage.
Carbone ended the scoring when he got past the defense of the Scarlet Raiders. After taking a three-quarter length long pass from goalkeeper
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley), his goal made it 4-0 and gave Bartletta his first career assist and point.
The Scarlet Raiders broke the shutout attempt in the 62nd minute and ended the scoring on the day in the 4-1 victory for the Ospreys.
Bartletta earned the 11th win of his rookie season, making one save on the day.
Stockton advances to take on the number one seed Montclair State on Wednesday night in the NJAC Tournament semi-finals. Game time is set for 7 pm.
