Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (5-2-4) scored a pair of early goals and dealt previously-unbeaten Widener University (9-1) its first loss of the season by a 2-0 score. The Ospreys capped a challenging stretch of four straight games against teams either ranked or receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
Widener entered the game rated No. 12 in Division III, but Stockton jumped out early by scoring twice in the first five minutes as the Ospreys connected on the first two of their four shots on goal in the game.
Just 2:20 into the match, freshman
Ernst Louisius (Asbury Park/Neptune) received a pass across the top of the box from
Aiden Hoenisch (Bordentown/Notre Dame) and fired home his third goal of the season.
Only 2:19 later, sophomore
Jake Homowitz (Tinton Falls/Christian Brothers Academy) got to a bouncing ball and volleyed a 20-yard shot that dipped under the crossbar for his first career goal and a 2-0 lead.
Stockton backs
Thomas Trimble (Emerson/Emerson),
Johnathan Holden (Waretown/Southern Regional),
Noah Jones (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) and
Kieran Sundermann (Little Egg Harbor/Pinelands) sparked the defensive effort that kept the Pride at bay throughout the contest.
Freshman goalkeeper
Brady Bartletta (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) made two saves, both in the second half and including a diving stop in the 79th minute. Bartletta recorded his fifth shutout of the season as Stockton upset Widener 2-0.
The Ospreys will be on the road on Saturday for an NJAC game at William Paterson that kicks off at 1:00 p.m.
