Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (10-2, 1-1 NJAC) scored in the fourth quarter to snap a 1-1 tie and top Montclair State University (4-9, 0-2 NJAC) 2-1. The victory was Stockton's 10th of the season as they reached double digits for the first time since 2019 and fifth in program history.
Kirsten Bailey (Burlington Twp./Burlington Twp.) and
Makayla Alessi (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) scored one goal apiece for the Ospreys. Alessi netted her third game-winner of the year, with two coming on goals that broke ties in one-goal triumphs.
In the final minute of the first half,
Ameera Bilgrami (Voorhees/Eastern Regional) fired a long pass from near midfield that found Bailey for a breakaway, and the sophomore beat Montclair goalie McKenna Laman for a 1-0 Stockton lead.
The Red Hawks tied the game on a tip-in by Natalie Surma in the third quarter, and the teams went into the final period deadlocked at 1-1. The Ospreys needed little time to pull ahead as they earned a penalty corner just 20 seconds into the quarter.
The insert came to
Allie Palumbo (Mantua/Clearview), whose blast was tipped in by Alessi for her fourth marker of the season. The Ospreys preserved the lead for the rest of the game, even while playing shorthanded for the last 3:38 due to a yellow card, and collected their first conference win, 2-1.
Stockton goaltender
Hannah Ayari-Dias (North Caldwell/West Essex) made five saves in the victory. Laman finished with four stops and Carly Amerman recorded a defensive save for the Red Hawks.
Stockton will play two games on the road next week, starting with a non-conference tilt at Cabrini University on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
