Glassboro, N.J. – Stockton University (3-2, 1-0 NJAC) outscored Rowan University (3-1, 0-1 NJAC) by six points in the second half and dealt the Profs their first loss of the season by a 76-73 score. The Ospreys were dominant inside, outscoring Rowan 30-10 in the paint and outrebounding the Profs 51-41.
DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) starred for Stockton, scoring a game-high 28 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds.
Diante Miles (Wildwood/Wildwood) tossed in 11 points while
Tayvon Gaither (Mt. Laurel/Lenape) netted 10 markers and dished a career-high four assists.
Stockton raced out to a 9-0 lead behind seven early points by Campbell. The Ospreys did not trail until the 4:59 mark when Rowan took its first lead at 32-31. Stockton trailed by six until a late three-pointer by Campbell cut the deficit in half, 42-39 at the break.
In the second half, the Ospreys turned a four-point deficiency into a 57-49 lead with a 15-3 run that featured seven points by Miles. A Campbell jumper later gave Stockton its largest advantage at 69-60 with 4:25 on the clock, but the game tightened down the stretch.
After Rowan tied the score 70-70 with 1:45 to play, Stockton tallied five straight points, with a Campbell free throw giving the Ospreys the lead for good. Rowan got within 75-73 with two seconds left before a final free throw sealed the 76-73 triumph.
Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton/Cherokee) scored nine points and tied his career high with nine rebounds while
Jalen Collins (Blackwood/Triton) chipped in with six points and eight boards.
Marcellus Ross paced Rowan with 25 points. Ja'Zere Noel finished with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for the Profs.
After playing three games in five days two of which were in South Dakota, Stockton will have over a week off before playing at Rutgers-Camden on November 29 at 8:00 p.m.
